A lot of motorheads out there will be aware about the new concept car unveiled by Kia at the 2020 AutoExpo. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic came along and wreaked havoc on the world. The Kia’s compact SUV contender is finally here and it is called the Kia Sonet. This is expected to be launched in India in August 2020 and are priced somewhere between Rs.7 lakh to Rs.11 lakh ex-showroom. But again considering the pandemic, the SouthKorean manufacturer might consider postponing the launch of the car in India though it has not been declared officially. They might come up with this thought because this pandemic has ruined all the plans and auto manufacturers will have a lot more priorities before they recommence the launch.

Just like the Seltos, this concept car will be looking just like the production car barring those huge wheels obviously. The Kia Sonet will be based on the Hyundai Venue just like how the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are related. So it is expected to come with the 1.2 litre petrol engine, the 1.5 litre diesel engine and of course the 1 litre turbo petrol engine. Definitely there will be a lot of differences between the two cars when it comes to styling and features to set them apart from each other. As per the concept car that is unveiled at the AutoExpo, the production car is expected to get the dual tone alloy wheels and other details about the tyre like the brand, width, wheelbase and wheel-size is more likely to be the same as its cousin, the Venue. In the front, the car gets the sleek eyelid LED headlamps with daytime running lights that sort of sweep back into the side fender. Of course Kia has not forgotten its flagship tiger nose grill and that now has few red accents inside the grill and also on the lower lip of the front bumper which just makes the car look stunning. The grill has a very interesting glossy texture going on there which is shaped like a honeycomb. The car also has roof rails which is not a new feature in the compact SUV segment. Kia has not revealed the variants of the Sonet for now, but very soon it is going to be official.

Coming to the side, it just looks well built and the surfaces are smooth. There are few noticeable authentic concept car elements like the flush door handles and the thin wing mirrors.

In the rear, the car gets dual tailpipes which gives a sporty look to the car. Also the LED tail lamps has a bar that runs right across and the Kia logo gets a LED backlight. Indeed it already looks like it is dominating the Venue but we cannot really come up with any conclusions for now as this is a pre-production model.

Kia's UVO Connect:

In terms of features, it looks like the Sonet will overshadow the Venue. We can expect the car to be feature loaded just like the Seltos, obviously the interiors will get a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bose audio, a sunroof and the UVO connect as well. The UVO connect is Kia's in-vehicle media controller that connects with any smartphone to provide a wide range of features like engine and AC on and off, auto collision notification if there is any impact to the car and live car tracking. The car's infotainment system can also be controlled using the UVO connect app for making it more convenient to rear seat passengers.

Rivals:

They have not revealed it completely but there are a lot of cool features like wireless charging, multi-functional steering wheel, cruise control, automatic climate control, rear parking camera and there is going to be a clutch less manual gearbox so that the driver can ignore boring clutches especially on the Indian roads and can enjoy shifting gears without any hassle. As the compact SUV market is vast, the Kia Sonet will have an intense competition with the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport and also the Tata Nexon. So this is it, the Kia Sonet concept and I’m really looking forward to see this out on the Indian roads.
