Skoda Kodiaq Vs Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.

In this article we will be comparing 2 SUVs which are the Skoda Kodiaq and the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.


The Skoda Kodiaq comes with a 4 pot 2L mill which pushes out a 148 HP @4000rpm and 340N.m @1750rpm which is mated to a 7 speed automatic gearbox.
Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace on the other hand comes with a similar 4 cylinder 2L engine but this time it uses petrol instead of diesel and churns out an amazing 188hp @4200rpm which is a whole 40hp more than its competitor along with 320N.m @1500rpm. The transmission in the Kodiaq is the 7 speed DSG gearbox.
Both the cars are 4WD.
The gears in the Skoda can be changed manually via the Paddle Shifter. Unfortunately the Tiguan has no such option.
The engine in the Kodiaq conforms to the BS IV emissions where as the Tiguan's complies with the latest BS VI emissions.


Skoda Kodiaq has length, width and height of 4705mm, 1882mm and 1676mm respectively. Along with a ground clearance of a 188mm
The Tiguan Allspace has 4821mm, 1839mm and 1674mm as length, width and height respectively. The ground clearance is a very acceptable 200mm.
Seeing these number you can make out that the Tiguan is just a tiny bit bigger than the Kodiaq.


The interior on the Kodiaq is plush to say the least.The car comes with alcantara upholstery,the gear knob and the steering wheel are draped in beautiful leather. The car comes with ambient lighting and the front seats are 12 way electrically adjustable along with lumbar supports.
As for the infotainment system the car gets an 8 inch LCD TFT screen with BossConnect which is accessed through the Skoda Media Command App.
The infotainment system comes with usb ports, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple carplay etc.
this infotainment system is paired to a 10 speaker system by Canton.
In the safety department the car has 9 air bags, 2 isofix child seat preparations on outer seats of the second row, there also are 3 anchor points for child seat safety behind the second row. The Kodiaq also features cruise control so you can give your hands a rest on the long run.
The car also comes with a load of other features like Drive Modes, Off Road switch for hill descent control and Hands-Free Parking, where the car will park itself for you, for your convenience.
The interior of the Tiguan Allspace embraces you into luxury with most of the surfaces you touch being clad in leather like the seats, the steering wheel, the gear knob too.  The front seats are 8 way electronically adjustable seats in addition to that the driver’s seat has the added feature of lumbar support and memory function.
The infotainment system can be accessed through the 8 Inch touchscreen upfront, this screen can be optionally upgraded to a larger 9.2 Inch touchscreen. The usual Android Auto, Apple carplay, bluetooth , usb ports come as standard akin to almost every modern car .
The car also has a heat insulating windshield which doesn’t let the windshield fog up as easily. The outside mirrors also have a memory function for the driver’s convience. The car also comes with cruise control so that you can give your hands rest on those long, long drives.
For the comfort of the front passengers the seats can be heated even.
The car also comes with a isofix child seat system anchors along with a 3 point seatbelt in the middle seat for children.
As for other safety features the carbcomes with 7 airbags with front and rear air curtains and driver knee air bags.
You also get panoramic sunroofs in both the cars.
The Kodiaq has a bootspace of 270Lts which can be further enlarged by folding the last 2 rows making it a very suitable for hauling a lot of luggage.
Tiguan Allspace has a larger 340 Lts bootspace making sure you can carry whatever luggage you want with you where ever you go.


Both the cars have a very similar fuel economy.
The Kodiaq gives 16.25 KMs to the litre where as the Tiguan has a fuel economy of 16.65 kmpl.
The 16.25kmpl economy along with the 63Lts tank gives the Kodiaq a claimed range of 600KMs
The Tiguan Allspace has a comparatively smaller tank of 60Lts but along with the slightly higher economy of 16.65kmpl enables the car to have a range very similar to that of it’s competitor of somewhere in the ball park of 600kms.
This makes both the cars suitable for long road trips without worrying about running out of fuel.


The Skoda Kodiaq has 3 variants
1. The Style 2.0 TDI 4x4 AT which is priced at 33 Lakhs
2. Then there is the Mid-Tier model which is the scout that costs 33.99 Lakhs
3. The Top-end Model is the Laurin & Klement 2.0 TDI 4X4 AT which is priced at 36.78 Lakhs

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace comes with one single variant which is the Tiguan Allspace 4Motion which is priced at 33.12 Lakhs
This makes the top end model of the Kodiaq a whopping 3 lakhs more than the Tiguan’s.


Both these cars are very well made in terms of fit and finish and they have also have some beautiful engines. The cars also come with the most modern features you’d expect from such cars which is a plus.
Although we think the Skoda Kodiaq is More accessible to the public as there are more variants ranging in prices which will cater to everyone’s need who are in the market for an SUV between 30 and 40 Lakhs.
