Tata About to Enter the Premium Hatch Segment in Style

What comes in our mind when we hear the term premium hatchback. The Baleno, i20, jazz and the polo. Here we see the major manufacturers of our automobile industry are covered. We have a
product from India’s largest Automobile Manufacturer Maruti Suzuki to all the way to the German
giant VW but there is someone missing and that’s our Indian giant Tata which has started
establishing itself in the recent time in the spicy Indian Auto Market. There is the Tiago which we all
have seen winning a number of awards right from the launch. Then there is the Tigor which is the
best value for money compact sedan. And then the 5-star rated Nexon which is just another word
for excellent in the compact SUV market. Is there something missing? Yes the premium hatch
segment. Tata did give a glimpse of one in the Geneva Motor show held in March 2019 by the name
Altroz or the 45X.


But now the time has come to roll out the new product for us. Tata has commenced media drives as well as opened booking for the all new Altroz. Most details about the product are out and the expectations are quite high after seeing the quality of Tata going up. Since the Indian Giant is carrying the value for money as well as the strong build quality tag, chances of Altroz hitting the sales charts are also up.

Coming to the variants, we will be seeing the same names XE, XM, XT and XZ. Though another variant with the dual tone theme would also be present. There are no doubts that Tata will offer thenecessary and mandatory features right from the base variant and the top specs would be highlyfeature loaded. Altroz was to be launched in the last quarter of 2019 with BS4 engines but Tata
scrapped the idea and decided to launch it with BS6 engines in 2020. There would be petrol as well
as diesel mills.
However the EV model that was showcased in the Motor show isn’t around right now
but can be seen in the coming years after the Nexon EV. Coming back to the heart of the Altroz, we will be getting one petrol and one diesel motor. The petrol unit will be the same 1.2 litre 3 cylinder, natural aspirated, tried and tested engine from the tiago and tigor. But this would be BS6 compliant which would make it more refined and smooth. The NVH could also be less due to the upgradation.The diesel would be the 1.5 litre turbo charged from the Nexon which is known for its fun to drive nature as well as efficiency. But since the diesel market is going down with every coming day, we might encounter low sales of the Altroz diesel. Both the engines are getting a manual transmission for the time being but and an automatic would definitely be seen in the future due the rising demands. There were some rumours that a turbo charged petrol unit from the Tiago JTP could also come with Altroz but that’s not coming right now.


Tata Altroz can definitely eat the major sales of the segment leaders on behalf of its mesmerizing
looks, a ton of features, value for money and also which we Indians care the most about, the
mileage. However Tata still needs to work on it’s after sales and customer support which the only
major point to tackle is. Not to forget that Hyundai is also coming with the next generation of the i20 in the coming year which would just stiff the competition. Let’s hope that we as consumers have a wide range of options and the market can once again flourish after the setback it has seen after a very long time.
