Fuel Efficiency Comparison: EcoSport diesel has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 22.7 kmpl which is 3.1 kmpl less than the Figo Aspire's mileage of 25.8 kmpl. In our back-to-back test, the Figo Aspire was consistently 2 kmpl more efficient than the EcoSport, in spite of being powered by the same engine. The manual transmission equipped 1.5 litre EcoSport has an ARAI certified mileage of 15.8 kmpl and the 1.0 EcoBoost has 18.9 kmpl, which is 2.4 kmpl less and 0.7 kmpl more than the Figo Aspire 1.2 manual rated at 18.2 kmpl. However in our real world tests, the Figo Aspire was consistently 1 kmpl more efficient than the 1.0 EcoBoost powered EcoSport & 3 kmpl more efficient than the 1.5 litre EcoSport. Both the EcoSport & the Figo Aspire share the same 1.5 litre engine, dual clutch gearbox combination with an ARAI certified mileage of 16.5 & 17.0 kmpl respectively. In our back-to-back tests the Figo Aspire was 1 kmpl more efficient than the EcoSport.

Performance & Driveability Comparison:
Diesel: Both cars share the same drivetrain but with two crucial differences. Firstly, the Figo Aspire is over 200 kg lighter than the EcoSport. Secondly, Ford has tuned up the engine to 100 horsepower in the Figo Aspire, up from EcoSport's 90 horses. This has made the better than the already fantastic EcoSport, be it in terms of drivability around tow, overtaking ability on the highway or even outright acceleration.

Petrol: Out in the real world, the much touted award winning, three times world engine of the year 1.0 EcoBoost falls disappointingly short of expectations while powering the 1200+ kg EcoSport. In comparison the 1.2 litre Figo Aspire feels far superior. With significantly better drivability around town as well as mid-range and top-end performance which is almost as good as the EcoBoost and all this for 2-3 lakh rupees less than the EcoBoost's entry price! The 1.5 litre EcoSport too has almost identical performance to the 1.2 litre Figo Aspire, Aspire's 200 kg lower kerb weight allowing it to achieve similar performance with 300 lesser cubes of displacement. Automatic versions of both cars share the same powertrain, but again due to Figo Aspire's two quintal lower mass, it performs way better than the EcoSport.

Space & Comfort Comparison: Both cars are slightly lacking in terms of space, especially in the second row. In both the cars second row is a bit too narrow. Therefore taking on a fifth passenger is best avoided. Although for 2 occupants both cars do have more than adequate knee room and leg room. Even the ergonomics are quite good, with slightly stiff foam, which provides excellent support and is a boon on long drives. Both cars have 350 litre boots, which are just enough to swallow the luggage of the 4 passengers going on a small trip.

Handling & Ride Quality Comparison: The Figo Aspire is a much low slung car compared to raised up EcoSport. This has obvious implications, firstly on the ability to tackle bad roads, which thanks to a higher ground clearance, the EcoSport is able to tackle without worrying about scraping the underbelly of the car. But even on a rough road, the ride quality inside a Figo Aspire is much better than in the EcoSport. Since the EcoSport has a much higher centre of gravity compared to the Figo Aspire, it has a much higher tendency towards body roll. To counter the body roll, it needs to have much stiffer springs than the Figo Aspire. Stiffer springs tend to transfer far more impact to the occupants giving it an inferior ride quality compared to the Figo Aspire. The high CG also plays spoilsport in EcoSport's handling. It fails to match the sheer poise and finesse of the Figo Aspire around the bends. Even the steering feel and feedback is vastly better in the Figo Aspire than in the EcoSport.

After Sales Service Comparison: Ford has been trying hard to get rid of its notoriety for having cars that are expensive to maintain. It made major strides with the Figo and has continued to improve with the EcoSport. Amongst the EcoSport & Figo Aspire the Aspire is slightly cheaper to maintain. The same part sold as a spare for a car from the higher segment is always more expensive than that of car from the lower segment made by the same manufacturer. However, since the EcoSport's being the more desirable car amongst the two, it is bound to depriciate lesser than the Aspire and fetch better resale value after an ownership period of 5 to 7 years.
