A word of caution for the prospective buyers is, to ignore the segmentation non-sense. The Terrano is based on a very cheap Dacia Sandero hatchback platform, which is far less premium than the Brezza’s platform, and just because Nissan could not make it sub 4-metre, it has become immensely more expensive than the Brezza without becoming any better.

Reliability and After Sales Service: Nissan still has a long way to go to catch up with Maruti’s unbeatable after sales service in our country. Nissan’s Romanian cars i.e. re-badged Dacias, have a reputation for niggling problems. Nissan’s dealers are yet find their footing in India and as we all know, the politico-mafia community owns most of the new car dealerships, these days. This makes them the last place to expect any customer centricity at all. Renault’s service network, with its 200 odd touch points is also no match to Maruti’s 2000+ dealerships.

Resale after 5 to 7 years est. (Lakh): Vitara Brezza is bound to depreciate at least 70,000 Rs. lesser than the Terrano over a usage of 5 to 7 years.

Terrano 85PS – 7.20

Total Cost of Ownership (in Lakh): (Vehicle Price + Fuel Cost – Resale Value)

Vitara Brezza – 6.81
Terrano 85PS – 8.83

Verdict: The Brezza is our pick of this test. It works out to be far better value-for-money than the Terrano. It has many more features; it is bound to be more reliable, it is noticeably more refined and almost as spacious as the Terrano. With a pricing which undercuts the Terrano by 2 lakh rupees, it is an absolute no brainer and a deserving winner of this shootout.
